Artist Statement
Building a history of experience in the process of painting is vital to my process. My images emerge from experiencing my energetic home NYC, weird humor, cozy cat friends, seasonal flowers, magnificent historic (Agrigento, Sicily or the great American Southwest ) sites and awe inspiring landscapes (real and imagined) I have had the pleasure of experiencing. When I am struck by a visual/emotional experience I sit with it and start playing; Oh, this is going to be fun! How should this progress? Let’s get going!! A flow of ideas and sticking my paintbrush in a glob of color gets things moving.I say to myself: Keep open, Liz. I want to be surprised, but I also am very invested in making strong work to pull viewers in, hopefully reactivating the experience of what it feels like to be curious and alive. I am very grateful to have the privilege to paint.
